One of my favorite things to do in the Spring is visit the tulip farms in Skagit Washington. As soon a April rolls around you know it’s the start of blooming festival season in Washington, starting with daffodils to the beautiful blooms of the colorful tulip farms. Every year during the whole month of April people can go and enjoy the millions of tulips planted on huge fields.
Tulips fields have been around in the Skagit Valley since the 1900’s, and are planted throughout hundreds of acres in the valley each year. The fields are bordered by the Skagit River in the north west part of Washington. The bulbs are planted in the fall and bloom around the end of March to the beginning of May, when the weather starts to get warmer in the spring.
I love walking around the fields and enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Looking at the sea of colors, of pink, purple, orange, red, and yellow attached to their vibrant green stems, it always reminds me of a rainbow. All of the color surrounded by mountains, still with a dust of snow on top of them, it’s just too beautiful to describe!
There are several different fields that you can wander through to enjoy the tulips. I like to go to a different one each year to get different views of the tulips. The two gardens I love visiting are Tulip Town and RoozenGaarde. They are both owned and operated separately and both charge around $7.00 entry, and have services where you can buy food, shop, and buy flowers. They put out amazing arrangements of flowers and you get several different spots for different photos.
I have a few tips if you get the chance to visit the Skagit Valley. The best way to get around is by driving to the farms. Tulip season is from April 1-30 but sometimes they extend the dates based of the blooms for the year, and if you wish to avoid the crowds the best time to go is a weekday. The best way to be informed about the festival is to check their website: Tulip Festival. Wear boots or any closed toe shoe because your shoes are bound to get dirty. You’re not allowed to bring pets into the farms. Bring money to pay for you entry ticket.
It’s so hard to put your camera down as your walking through the fields. Every angle is so picturesque, it’s hard to choose which photos are my favorite! Tulip Festival is over this year but if your ever in the PNW in the spring it should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Stay tuned for all the other festivals I hope to visit this year!! Next up on my list is Lantern Fest!!!

Usually when you think of winter fashion you think blacks, grays, and browns and summer you think of bright colors. I know that is usually the trend, colored denim has been slowly emerging itself into winter fashion trends, and I am finding myself becoming a colored denim lover/junkie. I know that wearing colored pants can be a little intimidating and scary, but if worn and chosen correctly, you can transition these bold pants into a cute and fashionable winter outfit. Here’s how!!!
Choose more muted colors: A more muted color looks best for a daytime look, but if you are feeling a little daring you might want to try something brighter like pink or red denim for a more dramatic nighttime look. I prefer to wear my pink jeans during the day and switch it up and wear my darker maroon denim jeans for a nighttime look. Pick colored denim based off colors that appeal to you, try to stay away from neon colors if your not used to wearing colored pants.
Wear them with an oversized sweater: Pairing your colored denim with a black, grey, or white cozy sweater is a comfy, cute winter look that you’ll love! You can transition the outfit from day to night buy adding some accessories and pear of cute heals.
Mix in a scarf: Chunky scarves are my favorite accessory to pair with my colored denim. Scarves are a great accessory for winter and mixing them with a colored denim balance and complete a cute winter outfit. If you like chunky scarves I advise to buy them in a neutral color, otherwise it makes you look a little heavier, but if your like thinner scarves, muted patterns are really pretty.
Pair with boots: The best easiest way to winterize your colored denim is to pair them with boots or booties. Boots are a great winter accessory and add a different texture and vibe to your outfit making the outfit look more fit for winter than summer. I love to pair my denim with my hunter rain boots!!
Patterns: Don’t be afraid to try patterned pants. Pair them with knee hight boots for just a pop of pattern, with a neutral top, and minimal jewelry. When you have all of that going on, there isn’t too much of a need for many accessories.
