Lovers of Valdero

I just finished a custom request that I had on my Etsy page. I didn’t know much about “The Lovers of Valdaro” but the story (or at least what we know about them) is very beautiful. Archaeologists unearthed these two skeletons, in 2007, locked in an embrace and buried near Verona Italy, the city of Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. The man and woman were discovered in a joint tomb in a palace in Modena. The excavation director Donato Labate said “I have been involved in many digs, but I’ve never felt so moved.” Their loving embrace has lasted an eternity, nearly 5,000 years. A real life fairytale!!

The person who requested this sketch wanted the lyrics to a song called “Chasing Cars” sung by the band Snow Patrol, written around the skeleton couple. I think that lyrics to the song fit the story and the everlasting love of the skeleton lovers perfectly. An eternity of love.
