Migraine oh my!! Headache Remedies

Hey guys!! So I am one of those people whose had headaches/migraines all my life, and I recently just started school again so I get headaches more frequently, due to stress and other things. When my head pounds, sometimes my whole body feels the pain. Every headache has a different cause and treatment. If you are like me and look to relieve some of that pain without the use of medications, I want to share with all of you some of my natural headache relieving remedies. These remedies are usually effective for me, but finding the one that works for you might require you to try all of the until you find one that is successful. If your migraine is a much more complicated ailment, then you may want to consult your doctor.

Causes of Headaches: There are many different types of headaches, but some major types are primary and secondary headache. Primary headaches can include tension, migraine, and cluster headaches. Secondary headaches are usually some kind of underlying health problem that leads to head and body pains. For me I usually have tension headaches, it is also usually the most common type of headache. Tension headaches can be caused by stress, anxiety, and depression. Some causes of secondary headaches can be head trauma, tumor, infection, high blood pressure, and many other things. I am not a doctor…yet!!…so I advise you to consult your physician if you are concerned that you have a secondary headache. Sometimes consuming certain types of foods can trigger a headache, also it can be cause by a withdrawal of caffeine, especially if you are a heavy soda or coffee drinker like I was. However I admit that I am still a lover of coffee, but I did cut soda out of my diet completely. Below are some of the natural remedies that have worked for me to cure my headaches!!!!

1- Teas: When you feel a headache coming on sometimes brewing a fresh cup of lemon, ginger, or my favorite mint tea, add honey and slowly sip the tea and feel your headache slip away!!

2- Temple massage: Peel fresh lemon and use a piece of the lemon peel in each hand and massage your temples in small circular motions. This will help to release your bodies natural medicines!

3- Brush your hair: Take a hairbrush and brush your hair gently…or even better have someone else do it for you. As your getting a head and scalp massage, close your eyes and let the brush increase your blood flow, helping to reduce and relieve the pain.

4- Almonds: Munch on a handful of almonds (about 1/4 cup). Almonds are a natural pain reliever, it should take about 45 minutes to an hour to feel the effects, and for your pain to subside.

5- Cold compress: Fill a zip-lock baggie with ice, wrap the bag in a thin towel and place it on the back of your neck. Leave it in place for about 15 minutes or so. Sometimes I find placing it on your forehead with your eyes closed works best for me.

6- Take a nap: Lay down and close your eyes for about a half an hour, and let your imagination go.

7- Massage: Sometimes rubbing the kinks out of your muscles and scalp helps to relieve the headache pain, and it’s really relaxing and fun too!!
